 Summary

The Deliver mobile app was designed for drivers and dock workers to execute their duties while providing real-time data to management teams on the D365 side.

To streamline the workers' processes, two modes are used within the app to cater to each workload:

  • Driver
  • Dock

Driver mode focuses entirely on the execution of activities from the driver's perspective.

Dock mode assists with dock management and inventory movements.

 Driver

The Driver mode of the Deliver app provides resources with the ability to execute and document their Activities from the mobile device, which transmits data back to D365.

Driver Activity List:

In Driver mode, driver resources can see all the Activities that the user is paired to from the home screen of the app. If the resource is not currently assigned to any Activities, the screen will say that the resource is not currently assigned.
On this screen, resources can see the list of Activities assigned to their worker. Drilling down to an individual Activity, the user can see the Activity ID of the Activity, the number of stops on the Activity, and the total estimated distance of the Activity. Additionally, the status of the Activity is listed on this screen.

Activity Screen:

Once the user selects an Activity, they will be taken to the main screen for the Activity.

Activity Screen Header:

Across the top of the screen, the user will see basic Activity information including the Activity ID, the start address, and the status. There are also icons in the upper right that will pull up a route map, reload the information on the screen, allow the resource to capture a photo, and return the resource to the Deliver home screen.

Activity Screen Actions:

Below this information is the Action buttons that are available for this Activity. As a reminder, the Actions listed in this section are pre-configured and enabled to certain operation profiles, and this list does not contain any ancillary Actions such as Flush Inventory.

Activity Screen Stops:

Below the Action icons, the user will find additional Activity information. The left side of the screen shows the list of stops that are on the Activity along with their corresponding stop number on the right side.

Activity Line Options:

The user is presented with an additional list of options if an Activity Line is selected.

From here, the resource is presented with a list of Activity Options.

Get Directions:

If the user selects "Get Directions", a map view with directions to the next stop will pull up.

View Line Info:

If the user selects "View Line Info", a list of all the Logistics Orders and their corresponding information for the stop will pull up.

Capture Signature:

If the user selects "Capture Signature", a list of all the Logistics Orders associated with that particular stop will pull up. It also gives the resource the option to capture a signature for proof of delivery purposes. Additionally, there is a Notes field where the resource can add the printed name of the person who signed for the delivery or any notes regarding the delivery (i.e. two pallets damaged).

Take Photo:

The final option available is "Take Photo." The stop the user selected to bring up the options will determine what the user sees next. The user can also take a photo from the header level, which does not associate to any Activity lines.

If the user selects the origin stop, the user will be shown a list of Logistics Orders on the Activity to choose from, and then the user can take a picture, add a note, and it will be tagged to that Logistics Order. If the user selects one of the destinations stops, the user will go straight to the photo and note section.

Activity Maintenance – Desktop Version

All the items that were discussed in the Driver app section are tied back to the centralized database that is D365 in real time. These touchpoints are outlined below.

Activity Screen – Activity Maintenance:

When the desktop user selects an Activity, all pertinent information and options for the Activity are shown on the Activity Maintenance form.

Activity Screen Header – Activity Maintenance General and Activity Lines Fast Tabs:

Much like the header of the Activity Screen on the app, the General and Activity Lines Fast Tabs provide basic information for the Activity, including the Activity ID, Activity status, and starting address of the Activity.

Activity Screen Actions – Activity Maintenance Actions Ribbon:

The Actions listed in the Ribbon of the Activity Maintenance screen will be the same as the Driver mode of the Deliver app, but the desktop version includes the ancillary actions that are not listed in the app. Executing the Actions from the app or the desktop version will have the same results on the Activity.

Executing the Actions from the app or the desktop version will have the same results on the Activity. The Start/Begin action will populate the Start Date Time field in the Time Fast Tab, as well as the Arrival Date Time for the origin location in the Activity Lines Fast Tab. Depart Actions will timestamp their respective Activity Lines, as will Arrive Actions. The Complete/End Action will populate the End Date Time on the Time Fast Tab, as well as the Depart Date Time on the Activity Lines Fast Tab.

It is also important to note that the driver does not have to execute the stops in order. Stops can be completed in whichever order the driver deems best. Stops can also be skipped entirely. Completion of all stops is not necessary to complete the Activity.

Activity Screen Stops – Activity Maintenance Activity Lines and Stops Fast Tabs:

On the Activity Maintenance screen, the stop addresses, Logistics Orders tied to those stops, and the number of stops on the Activity can all be found in the Activity Lines and Stops Fast Tabs.

Activity Line Options – Activity Maintenance:

Get Directions – Route Map:

Much like the Get Directions option on the app, selecting the Route Map in the View section of the Ribbon will pull up a map view of the Activity.

View Line Info – Activity Lines Fast Tab

In the Activity Maintenance screen, the Line Info is already listed out in the Activity Lines Fast Tab. For more detailed information on each line, the user can select the Logistics Order ID to take the user to the corresponding Logistics Order form.

Capture Signature and Take Photo – Images Fast Tab

When a signature or a photo is captured on the app, it is automatically uploaded to the desktop version, and can easily be seen in the Images Fast Tab of the Activity Maintenance screen. The images are also added to the Images bank on the corresponding Logistics Order forms.

Further Notes on Driver Mode:

GPS:

Since the Deliver app runs on the user's mobile phone, the phone needs to allow location access to the app. This allows the app to track the driver's movements while the resource is using the app. This is necessary to show that the driver arrived at the actual pickup and delivery locations, but it also provides a complete view of the Activity via GPS pings. Upon completion of an Activity, the user can select the Route Map button on the Activity Maintenance screen, which will allow the user to review the actual route taken by the resource. This will also highlight any unexpected deviations from the route. The time and distance between GPS pings are configurable from the Parameters form in the Logistics Execution module.

Inbound Process Queue:

While the Route Map makes a record of the GPS pings recorded along the Activity, the Inbound Process Queue (IPQ) keeps a timestamped record of the Actions executed along the Activity. The IPQ keeps a record of the date and time that the Action was submitted, as well as the date and time that the Action was actually executed in the system. The Inbound Process Queue can be found on the Activity Maintenance form in the View pane of the ribbon.
