Advanced Order Routing
Advanced Order Routing uses the Order module as the key processing engine within F&SCM to manage orders. It passes information to SCC to make decisions regarding the orders and how to ship them.
Because F&SCM does not have information regarding container and/or pallet dimensions until the orders are waved, Supply Chain Cloud offers:
- Estimated Pallets: An additional configuration to store the number of estimated pallets required to ship the order demand line.
- This supports decimal values.
- This value is used after order consolidation to figure out the volume of each of the lines being shipped as part of the consolidation.
- Suggested Carrier: A field on the sales order header that stores the carrier returned by the routing guide to ship the order.
- Suggested Service Level: A field on the sales order header that stores the carrier service level returned by the routing guide for the specific order.
- Suggested Carrier Group: A field on the sales order header that stores the carrier group returned by the routing guide.
- If this value is populated, there is no value in the Suggested Carrier or Suggested Service Level fields.
- A carrier group can identify a collection of parcel carriers to rate shop against in the future or a bidding group used for a load that is tendered out to LTL or TL carriers.
The diagram and text below display the process flow along with commentary and notes regarding each step.

FAQs
- Q: Why isn’t there a way to generate a rate as part of the routing guide process?
- A: To get accurate rates back from carriers, the system needs to know the final containerization for the shipment as well as NMFC and HazMat information for each item in the shipment.
- Because that information is not finalized until the wave executes, any rates calculated prior to the wave are of questionable accuracy.
- In high volume DCs, when a order is initially allocated, service levels such as ground might be available and would be the cheapest option.
- However, depending on when the order is picked/packed, that service level may no longer be available.
- It would be incorrect to still ship the container using a method that will no longer meet customer expectations regarding must arrive by dates.
- Q: Why can’t I get a suggested carrier/service on my order?
- A: There are multiple potential reasons that you might not be getting rates back:
- Order is not connected to SCC correctly.
- There is not a routing guide that matches the sourcing and shipping address for the order.
- There is a matching routing guide, but there is not a matching detail rate band.
- Q: Do I have to use Order to use Route?
- A: The logic to make the call to the routing guide can be done in a fairly simple D365 modification; however:
- Making sure you have the shipment origin and dimension information needed for the routing guide to be usable is complicated depending on needs.
- You also need to include enhancements to the wave template to support the suggested carrier management functionality.
- Q: Can I override the suggested carrier/service if I do not want to use it?
- A: Yes! Clients can still use the base functionality to assign a carrier and/or service to the order if they do not want the use the suggestions returned by the routing guide.
