Rate Shop in Dynamics 365

Rating

You can rate shop from several locations in D365 Finance and Supply Chain Management:

 Pack Station

Pack Station

Rate shop after packing a container to consider dimensional data (e.g., weight, length, width, height, container type).

You can also assign services at the shipment or load level.

Warehouse management > Packing and containerization > Pack

From the Pack page ribbon, click Rate Shop to shop for a carrier and service.

Note

This button is only enabled if a shipment is Open and a container exists. You cannot rate shop if the shipment is Loaded or Passed.

The Shipment Rate Shop form is split into two sections:

  • The left side of the page displays shipment rates for each carrier service, as well as delivery date and time and transit days (1).
  • The right side of the page displays container rates (2).

Sustainability: Reduce Carbon Footprint

Compare the transit days per service to select the lowest carbon-emitting option.

For example, while next-day air and ground might take the same amount of days, next-day air has a larger carbon footprint.

See Sustainability with Supply Chain Cloud for more information.

Filter by shipping carrier, carrier service, or carrier group on the right side of the page, then click Rate.

Important

The carrier group overrides the shipping carrier.

Click a carrier service on the left side of the page to view the rate per container on the right side of the page.

Click Assign in the ribbon to assign the selected carrier service at the shipment level. Once you assign a service, the form closes.

Important

If you assign a new carrier service to the shipment, only the shipment record is updated; the sales order and load do not change.

Note

If you are rate shopping containers that are not closed, the system weight will be used.

The actual weight is not entered until you close the container.

Once you click Assign for a carrier service, the system assigns an estimate ID that connects the quote with the shipment.

This quote is included in the dispatch.

If an estimate ID is present for the route, it will be assigned to the shipment.

 Containers for Shipment

Containers for Shipment

Rate shop the containers on a shipment.

Warehouse management > Packing and containerization > Pack

From the Pack page ribbon, click Containers for shipment to rate shop for a container.

 Rate Route Workbench

Rate Route Workbench

Rate shop at the time of sales order creation and before packing.

Note

You can also use theoretical containers to rate shop without a sales order. See Theoretical Containers for more information.

Accounts receivable > Orders > All sales orders

From the sales order ribbon, click Transportation, then Rate route workbench to rate shop for a carrier and carrier service.

Much of the information will be pre-populated from the sales order.

Select an option from the Shipping carrier drop-down list. (You can also rate shop by Carrier service or Carrier group.)

Important

The carrier group overrides the shipping carrier.

Select load dimensions to utilize volume pricing. If you rate from the load, these dimensions are auto-populated.

You can also select a requested delivery date and time.

Note

The system only checks time zone; it does not check for non-shipping dates or cutoff dates.

Click Rate shop in the top ribbon to view rates for all services for the selected carrier. (Click Rate to view only the cheapest option.)

Navigate to the Route Results section to view rate shop results, including delivery date and time and transit days, and to select a carrier service.

Note

If no date and time were selected, the Delivery date and time field defaults to the ship date.

The Hide Exceptions checkbox is selected by default to filter out services that are not applicable (e.g., international services for a domestic shipment).

Note

Services that return as exceptions are not applicable or the carrier returned an error for that service.

Click View exception details to see why a service returned with an exception.

Select the checkbox column for the desired service and click Assign.

You will see a message at the top telling you the carrier/service has been updated.

You will also see this updated on your sales order header

Once you click Assign for a carrier service, the system assigns an estimate ID that connects the quote with the shipment.

This quote is included in the dispatch.

If an estimate ID is present for the route, it will be assigned to the shipment.
